Flipside Group

Tim Drake  CEO

Tim started Flipside in the recession years of the early 90s with a grant from the Prince’s Trust. Now 35, he has stewarded the business through both growth and acquisition in to one of the very best resourced strategic, marketing and creative agencies in the country.

A large part of Tim’s success comes from a sense of prudence, backed with the sort of self-discipline that led him to climb Mount Fuji and become a finalist at the English Karate Championships. However, he always points out that his proudest achievement is never having had to make a single soul redundant – particularly unusual in this industry!

Tim chooses to lead the country life in rural Sussex splendour with his partner Cheryl, Mr Norris his standard Schnauzer, and his collection of lawnmowers.

Mark Gallie  Client Services Director

Mark was commissioned into the Navy where he flew helicopters for the Fleet Air Arm. Never knowingly risk-averse he subsequently worked the London agency scene on business such as Ford, Citibank and Star Alliance, ending up as a Group Account Director. Mark brings big agency best practice to a business he says has a ‘higher proportion of talent per square foot than any London shop’. Just what you want in a Client Services Director!

Anthony Basker  Technical Director

‘Ants’ is half-Greek and a full-time ‘Geek’. Tim bought his first computer from him, and then eventually talked him into joining up with Flipside to run the web and digital teams. Ants is one of those rare people who can not only speak the language of technology, but make it accessible to those who can’t – after a half-hour meeting the most complex programming issue will become blindingly obvious. Unfortunately once he’s left the room it doesn’t last!

Alan Halliday-Taylor  Sales Director

Big brands need big ideas and Alan is the man responsible for putting some of the biggest of both onto posters, building-wraps and into shop windows. A four year apprenticeship eventually led to a career in large-format print and Alan spent 8 years at industry leader Service Graphics before moving to Flipside. In his spare time he competes (very successfully) in Ironman triathlons.

Neil Christie  Director

The man who truly puts the word Director into his role as ‘Director’, Neil is a film maker of no small reputation who has put his vision and talent into video production, events, conferences, and experiential customer communications for clients as notable as Anglo-American and Amstrad. Having travelled the globe and seen the world through his lens his one remaining ambition is to get into Al’s Veterans’ Hockey Team at Staines.

Doug Fidler  Creative Director

Before joining Flipside, he worked as an independent graphic designer and computer animator building up a client list that included Volvo, 3M, Reuters and BAE Systems. He is renowned for inspiring the people around him with creative ideas that really engage on every level. He utilises his hard-earned experience and knowledge required to deliver the sometimes seemingly impossible goals he sets himself - but never fails to deliver. He has produced many high profile corporate productions and has received many awards including a Golden Camera award for outstanding visual effects for “Nothing Comes Close” – a high octane movie for Eurofighter.

Al Campbell  Strategic and Creative Director

Having failed a milk-round interview to become a ‘creative’ at JWT in 1976 Al went into media sales then surreptitiously started his own agency so he could write the copy. Many brands later, with experiences as diverse as Club 18-30 and Credit Suisse, he was persuaded by Tim over a bottle of Chardonnay to leave Covent Garden and bring his talents, insight, pen, wit and wisdom to Flipside. Other than missing Le Palais du Jardin he has no regrets.

Andrew Dickinson   Operations Director

In previous lives Zimbabwean Andrew was a scholarship golfer, junior international hockey player and a client at Al’s old agency. Andrew joined Flipside as an Account Manager and enjoyed rapid promotion. Despite continually trying to become an accountant, like his father, Tim has so far kept him so busy he hasn’t had time to complete his ACA registration forms. If he did they’d be sure to get lost somewhere in the postroom!

Jason Bodell  Head of Design

A Class of ’98 graduate of the highly respected Surrey Institute of Art and Design in Farnham (now the University College of the Creative Arts) Jason’s arrival at Flipside in 2003 brought huge artistic talent to the six-strong in-house design team. His portfolio covers a broad canon of work across print, new media, events, and exhibitions for BMW, the International Maritime Organization, Anglo American, Imagine Homes, CIMA and many others.

Mark Tomlin  Production Manager

Every marketing services business needs a man with ink in his veins and Mark Tomlin served a five year apprenticeship at LCP in Reprographics, Design and Printing, and then joined Tim as a founder member of the Flipside team. Since then just about every job the agency has ever produced has crossed his desk. He is, in his own words, the man who has ‘been there, seen it, done it and printed the T-shirt!’

Chris Savage  Interactive Director

Chris has over 15 years' experience in designing and creating immersive interactive systems and experiences. He has built a reputation for detail and quality in all the projects he delivers. Chris is a hands-on specialist who believes fundamentally in the principle of leading from the front. The skilled team that he has built up is motivated by a can-do culture and a passion to exceed expectations. His efforts haven't gone unnoticed with a recent Silver Screen award for marketing communication.
